The Queenscliff 'Forest' House responds to a unique and quirky site, a narrow block that slopes from east to west along the south side of a block of flats. The design prioritizes indoor-outdoor living, balancing openings to maximize natural light while ensuring privacy and minimizing overlooking from neighboring structures. These considerations shaped the spatial geometry of the house.
Much like a forest, the Queenscliff 'Forest' House is layered and dynamic. The lower living level serves as the forest floor, where shafts of light filter through from above. The entry/ground level is open, with both an internal void and an external void connected to the stair to allow light to filter to the level below. Then an upper-storey canopy perches above, offering expansive district views. The result is a house that steps out of the shadows and into the light, creating a seamless connection between interior and exterior spaces.
