The materiality and formal composition of Elouera House—featuring a solid sandstone base, a timber upper structure, and a pavilion-style metal roof—draws inspiration from the vernacular of ‘beach cottages’ that characterize the Northern Beaches region. This thoughtful design respects and reflects the local architectural language, giving the house a strong connection to the area’s distinctive coastal character. The detailing of the home enhances its sense of place, resulting in a building that is both well-articulated and harmonious with the tradition of Australian beachside cottages.
The proposed dwelling is a two-storey family home, offering a versatile layout with 3 bedrooms, a rumpus room, and a study. The lower level houses a study, a guest room with an ensuite, a laundry, a powder room, and an open-plan living, dining, and kitchen area at the rear, which opens out onto a spacious entertaining area. This outdoor space is further enhanced by a separate pavilion structure that provides cover and creates an ideal setting for social gatherings. On the upper level, two bedrooms, a rumpus room, and a large family bathroom complete the layout. Beneath the north-eastern corner of the house, a double garage offers secure parking and provides internal access to the main living level, ensuring convenience and ease of movement throughout the home.
