The alterations and additions to this inner west house were designed with the goal of maximizing the connection between the living spaces and the outdoor areas. The design prioritizes natural light, ventilation, and overall amenity for the owners, ensuring that the home supports both comfort and a seamless integration with its surroundings.
A key feature of the design is the rear double-height addition, which opens up the living space with an expansive glass facade that frames views of the rear garden. This not only floods the interior with abundant light but also creates a sense of openness and connection to the landscape. Although the footprint of the new additions is modest in size, the soaring volume and thoughtfully crafted spaces provide a feeling of grandeur, while maintaining an intimate and focused atmosphere within the home.
The design also explores the relationship between light, aperture, and the experience of space, with a particular focus on how the play of natural light enhances the home's ambiance. Through carefully considered openings and angles, the home invites a dynamic interaction between light and architecture, further enriching the spatial experience.
